Training for EHR Adoption - Health IT Certificate Programs

Tuesday, September 14, 2010

9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. CT

The landscape of the American health care system is undergoing rapid change as providers transition from paper to electronic health records (EHRs) and strive to meet the criteria of meaningful use.  This transition requires a workforce with enhanced skills to successfully implement, support and maintain the EHR systems.

Lake Region State College, in Devils Lake, ND, through a grant funded by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (Dept. of HHS), is offering three Health IT certificate programs that students can complete in six months. Lake Region is the only college in North Dakota, and one of only 70 community colleges in the country, to participate in this federally sponsored workforce training endeavor.

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT identified six workforce roles that require skilled professionals to support health care providers in the transition to electronic health records (EHRs).

Lake Region State College will deliver online training in three workforce roles:

  • Technical Software Support
  • Health IT Trainer
  • Clinician/Practitioner Consultant

Coursework is structured in eight-week terms. Classes will begin on September 27.

Graduates of Lake Region’s Health IT certificate programs will be prepared for employment with clinics, hospitals, long term care facilities, public health agencies or vendors of electronic health records systems.

Detailed information regarding course content, schedules, certificate program costs, and tuition assistance will be discussed.
